No winner at the penalty kick festival in Magdeburg

The mini streak of 1. FC Magdeburg has come to an end. After two wins in a row, FCM were unable to get past Holstein Kiel with a 3-3 (2-1) draw despite leading twice. In front of 26,497 spectators, Noah Pesch (45.+1), Baris Atik (45.+3) and Mateusz Zukowski (84th, penalty) scored for Magdeburg and David Zec (43rd, penalty; 68th, penalty) and Steven Skrzybski (90.+2) for Kiel. Magdeburg are in 16th place for the time being with 14 points.

"This reaction from the team after falling behind is not to be taken for granted and shows how solid we are. The team was rightly disappointed. There wasn't much to suggest that another goal like that would be scored - we had to make it 4-2 first," said FCM coach Petrik Sander, but was not completely dissatisfied overall.

Magdeburg turned around the deficit before the break

The club and fans had declared the match against Kiel an anniversary match - 1. FC Magdeburg was founded on December 22, 1965. There was a special jersey and choreography across all blocks to mark the 60th anniversary. Compared to the away win in Berlin, Marcus Mathisen returned to central defense and Max Geschwill sat on the bench.

But in stoppage time, first Pesch took the measure and smashed the ball into the corner from just under 20 meters (45.+1), then Atik scored artistically (45.+3) to take the lead.

Kiel punish Magdeburg's passivity late on

The visitors became more active when trailing, Magdeburg lost control of the game and the visitors equalized: An extended ball bounced off Mathisen's arm and Zec (68) converted the penalty. There was also a penalty at the other end, which Zukowski (84) converted to give Magdeburg the lead again. Magdeburg changed defensively, but Skrzybski scored the final goal with a dream goal from distance after a direct shot.
