Bundesliga basketball club Niners Chemnitz has extended its winning streak in the Eurocup to three games. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore beat Besiktas Istanbul 97:95 (53:44) in front of its home crowd. Amadou Sow was the Niners' best scorer with 27 points as they secured sixth place in Group B with their sixth win in their twelfth game.
The club from Chemnitz got off to a determined start and produced an 8:0 run to open up a slight 15:10 gap in the 5th minute. The home side continued to impress with a lot of energy and quick transition play. Besiktas, on the other hand, were rarely able to exploit their advantage in length. Led by the outstanding Sow, the Niners stretched their lead to nine points by the break.
After the break, the visitors were better able to get the ball under the basket to the outstanding Ante Zizic. They tied the scores at 67:67 in the 27th minute. However, the Niners found the right response and ended the third quarter with an 8:2 run. They initially kept up the pace in the final period as well and stretched their lead to 91:77 in the 34th minute, before their strength noticeably waned. Istanbul stalked back and even equalized with 66 seconds remaining to make it 95:95. However, Sow had the last word, scoring the winner after an offensive rebound.
