The Niners Chemnitz basketball team celebrated its first win of the season at the third attempt. The players of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore defeated Rasta Vechta by 88:77 (44:34) in front of their home crowd on Sunday. Jaron Johnson played the biggest part in the win with 19 points. DeAndre Lansdowne (15), Olivier Nkamhoua (14), Jeff Garrett and Aher Uguak (11 each) also scored in double figures. Brandon Rudolph (19), Justin Robinson (16) and Jayden Gardner (11) scored the most points for Vechta.
The home side laid the foundation for its success in the first quarter. The Niners led 15:2 after six minutes and although the lead had dwindled to one point by the twelfth minute (24:23), Chemnitz broke their opponents' morale early on with a 10:0 run to make it 34:23 in the 14th minute.
The home side was then no longer put under pressure thanks to its strong defense (37:30 rebounds). In addition, Chemnitz conceded 11 turnovers, whereas Vechta conceded 20.
