National handball player Zechel leaves Magdeburg

Handball player Tim Zechel is leaving the Bundesliga club SC Magdeburg early at the end of the season. "It was a time with ups and downs that wasn't always easy," said the international player, who was dropped from the squad by national coach Alfred Gislason shortly before the current European Championships.

The 29-year-old Zechel is joining another club after two years with SCM. It is not yet officially known where Zechel will move to. But there is a lot to be said for TSV Hannover-Burgdorf.

Zechel moved to Magdeburg in 2024, having already worn the Elbe city's jersey for three years as a youth player. At the Champions League winners, Zechel was unable to get past regulars Magnus Saugstrup and Oscar Bergendahl. Zechel has only been on the pitch for around one hour in the current Bundesliga season.
