Bundesliga club RB Leipzig appear to have found a successor to Benjamin Sesko, who has moved to Manchester United. According to reports in several media outlets, the Brazilian Romulo is set to strengthen coach Ole Werner's team. The 23-year-old attacker is still under contract with Turkish first division club Göztepe Izmir and is expected to complete his medical check this week.
Leipzig had already reached an agreement with the coveted goalscorer, but negotiations with his club faltered in the face of several interested clubs. The attacker, who moved to Turkey from Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense in February 2024, scored 13 goals in 29 games in the Turkish Süperliga last season and also contributed nine assists.
Romulo was left out of last weekend's 3-0 away win at Rizespor to kick off the season. A basic transfer fee of around €20 million is reported.
Interest in Liverpool's Elliot
In addition to Romulo, Leipzig had also held negotiations with Fabio Silva of Wolverhampton Wanderers, while there was also speculation about a return of former top star Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea FC. There is also interest in Harvey Elliot from Liverpool FC. The attacking midfielder, who was named the best player at the European Under-21 Championships, was once promoted by Jürgen Klopp, the current global head of soccer at Red Bull.
