Gina Lückenkemper won the 100 meters in a strong 10.93 seconds at the 27th Anhalt Meeting in Dessau-Roßlau. However, as the tailwind of 2.5 meters per second was too strong, Patrizia van der Weken from Luxembourg retained the meeting record of 11.02 seconds from 2023. "It's a shame that the meeting record is still not mine. But it's definitely something to build on and I'm looking forward to the next races," said Lückenkemper.
The 28-year-old's goal for the season is clear: "My big goal is Tokyo, where I want to finally reach the individual final," said the double European champion from 2022 and relay bronze medallist from the Olympic Games in Paris with a view to the World Athletics Championships, which will take place in Tokyo in September. Great Britain's Daryll Neita finished second in 11.00 seconds ahead of Sina Mayer, who ran 11.03 seconds.
Canadian with meeting record - javelin thrower Weber strong again
Canadian Jerome Blake had more luck with the wind in the sprint with his 9.97 seconds - the wind gauge showed a tailwind of 0.3 meters per second. This was a meeting record and a personal best.
In the javelin, Julian Weber underlined his current top form. Although he had only just returned from the Diamond League meeting in Paris earlier that morning, he threw 87.28 meters in his second attempt and won confidently ahead of Belgium's Douw Smit (82.53). Third place went to the Icelander Sindri Gudmundsson (80.39). "I only slept for three hours, but I really wanted to compete here because it's just fun here. That's why I'm satisfied," said Weber. Thomas Röhler from Jena, the 2016 Olympic champion, failed three attempts.
Farken only fourth
Robert Farken from Leipzig, who recently surprised everyone with two German records in the 1,500 meters and the mile distance, had to console himself with fourth place in 3:34.32 minutes. Victory in the 1,500 meters went to Portugal's Nuno Pereira ahead of South Africa's Ryan Mphahlele and Italy's Joao Bussotti.
As expected, two-time Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou from Greece won the men's long jump. In his second attempt, the world champion reached 8.23 meters, which was also the meeting record. Luka Herden (7.91 meters) came second ahead of Simon Plitzko (7.87 meters).
