The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team suffered a major setback in the Bundesliga relegation battle. The team of Head Coach Frank Carstens lost the basement duel against Bergischer HC by 28:35 (14:16). In front of 5,280 spectators, Lucas Krzikalla was the best scorer for SC DHfK (8:36 points) with six goals, whose gap to the safety margin grew to four points as a result of the first defeat in 2026.
The club from Leipzig began courageously, but increasingly lost its playful line from midway through the first half. They lacked pace against the compact BHC defense and were repeatedly thwarted by strong goalkeeper Christopher Rudeck, who made eight saves up to the break. The visitors played with more variety overall and so deserved their lead at the break.
After the break, Leipzig initially developed more penetration in attack, but revealed major weaknesses in defense. The composed BHC repeatedly found gaps and pulled 30:24 ahead by the 48th minute. The home side failed to mount a comeback in the final spell.
