The return of Jamal Musiala has an impact on the role of Harry Kane at FC Bayern. Coach Kompany explains his idea of freedom - and the conditions attached to it.

Harry Kane has been praised countless times for scoring goals. Ahead of Jamal Musiala's imminent return to the pitch after a long injury lay-off, coach Vincent Kompany highlighted one of the star striker's strengths that was particularly in demand during the German international's long lay-off. Kane sometimes has "those moments when he has a bit of that Toni Kroos and Kevin De Bruyne pass", said the coach of the German record champions.

Kompany's condition

The fact that Kane was not always only to be found up front was not due to the absence of Musiala, however. The attacking players have a lot of freedom with him. "If Harry wants to be in the box, he can go there every time," said Kompany. And if he wanted to drop back against deep-lying defenders, the Englishman could do that too.

However, Kompany also revealed a condition for the freedom. When you get into the final third in attack, two players have to be in the penalty area. Otherwise you are in the wrong position, said the Belgian. "It's a mixture of freedom - and then being where the goals are at the end," said the Belgian.

The attacking players Kane, Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl would interpret their respective roles differently. "Serge is different to Lennie. Lennie is different to Jamal. Jamal is different to Harry. And I like that," said Kompany.

"Could be a great game"

Kompany left it open as to which attackers he will field after the 6-0 first-leg win in Leipzig on Saturday (6.30pm). Musiala is said to be a candidate for a brief appearance. The 22-year-old suffered a serious injury to his left leg six months ago at the Club World Cup in the USA during the quarter-final exit against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. He is now healthy again.

"He radiates a lot of positive energy," said Kompany. He is looking forward to the top match against Leipzig. "They're a strong attacking team, it could be a great game. It will be intense, both teams can score goals."
