Jacqueline Pfeifer took second place in the overall World Cup with her victory at the World Cup final in Altenberg. The 30-year-old from RSG Hochsauerland, who also won the opening race on the new Olympic track in Cortina d'Ampezzo, is therefore heading to the Winter Olympics with a good feeling.
"I'm very happy right now. The second run went well for me, but I also knew that I had to improve at the start," said Pfeifer and emphasized: "That gives me a good feeling for the Olympics." The Olympic silver medallist from Pyeongchang 2018 set a track record in the final run in 57.06 seconds and relegated team-mate Susanne Kreher to second place by 0.33 seconds. Belgium's Kim Meylemans came third, winning the overall World Cup ahead of Pfeifer by just five points.
Kreher achieves Olympic standard in the last race
Kreher from Dresdner SC achieved the internal Olympic qualification with three places in the top eight and cried with happiness at the finish. "It's great that I've finally booked my Olympic tickets. I knew I could still make it onto the podium with this run," said the athlete from Saxony, who was in fourth place after run one on her home track.
Beijing Olympic champion Hannah Neise from BSC Winterberg, who is also qualified for the Olympics, finished fifth. Corinna Leipold from WSV Königssee came eighth.
