Berlin (dpa/bb) - The women of 1. FC Union Berlin have recorded their highest win of the season against unloved rivals RB Leipzig. The women from Köpenick beat the team from Saxony 5:0 (2:0) at their home stadium An der Alten Försterei. It was the third win in the first Bundesliga season for Union under coach Ailien Poese.
In front of 7,771 fans, Union had no major problems with their opponents, who had previously been level on points. Captain Lisa Heiseler scored twice before the break in the 13th and 44th minutes. After the break, Eileen Campbell (65), Sophie Weidauer (68) and Ida Heikkinen (90+1) added further goals.
Protest against RB
As with the men, Union fans also expressed their dislike of RB in the women's Bundesliga. All Union supporters remained silent for the first 15 minutes. A banner reading "No acceptance for RB!" was also displayed.
Union were able to make up for their last two consecutive defeats at 1. FC Köln (1:2) and at home against SC Freiburg (0:3) with this resounding victory. The next game for the Berliners is at Werder Bremen on November 1 (12:00 noon).
