The fan zone for the European Football Championship in Leipzig city center had to be closed on Friday evening before the kick-off of the opening match between Germany and Scotland due to the threat of overcrowding. As the number of visitors had reached its maximum during the night, according to the police, further influx was stopped. During the broadcast of the match, pyrotechnics were occasionally set off in the cordoned-off area on Augustusplatz. As with many other public viewings in the city center, according to previous findings, there were no disruptions.
