The ThSV Eisenach handball team started the new season with a win. The Thuringians won the East derby against SC DHfK Leipzig 31:27 (16:11) in front of their home crowd on Saturday. Felix Aellen (5), Fynn Hangstein (5/2), Vincent Büchner and Max Beneke (4 each) played the biggest part in the home side's success. Blaer Hinriksson (8/4), Lukas Binder (5) and Franz Semper (4) scored the most for the Saxons.
The Leipzig club only dominated the scene in the opening spell and was 6:5 ahead after twelve minutes. That was followed by Eisenach's strongest spell, as it produced an 8:1 run to pull 13:7 ahead in the space of eleven minutes (23'). The Saxons again got off to the better start in the second half, closing the gap to 15:18 in the 35th minute. However, this spurt proved to be only a brief flash in the pan. The home side had put the game beyond doubt at 23:17 (46') and did not get into trouble after that.
