ThSV Eisenach has made a preliminary decision in the relegation battle in the German Handball League. Misha Kaufmann's team won 30:27 (16:14) at second-to-last Bergischer HC on Sunday and is now five points clear of the first relegation place. In front of 3,000 spectators in Wuppertal's University Hall, Manuel Zehnder was once again the best scorer with twelve goals, including nine converted seven-meter penalties.
"We knew exactly that it would be a great game today. We did it as a team. The final phase was crazy, Peter Kornecki saves two important shots and we score two easy goals," said ThSV's center Peter Walz on TV station Dyn about the dramatic final phase, in which Eisenach was very cool.
After a strong opening spell by the club from Bergisch, Eisenach was able to take the lead for the first time in the 14th minute (8:7). That was not least due to four converted seven-meter penalties by Zehnder. The lead grew only slightly to 16:14 for the Wartburg club by the break. The start of the second half belonged to the BHC. ThSV lacked accuracy in this phase. The home side played itself into a flow.
