One month before the official start of the season, the Dresdner Eislöwen have landed another transfer coup. The newly promoted DEL team has announced that top scorer Austin Ortega is moving to the Elbe from league rivals Adler Mannheim.
The 31-year-old from the USA brings with him the experience of 270 DEL games for Eisbären Berlin, Red Bull Munich and Mannheim. He scored a total of 108 goals and set up 124 assists. Ortega became German champion with Munich in 2023. Ortega is the rookie's ninth new signing.
A sure-fire striker
The California-born sports science graduate became Bayern's top scorer between 2021 and 2024 alone with 72 goals and 67 assists in three main rounds. Ortega will face another former club, Eisbären Berlin, who brought him to Germany from Sweden in 2018, in the opening game on September 9.
"Austin is an exceptional player who has proven his qualities in the DEL for years. We are delighted that we were able to sign him for the Eislöwen. His game intelligence and scoring ability will help our team enormously. In addition, he already knows Trevor Parkes very well from Munich. With his experience and ambition, he's a great fit for the Eislöwen," said Dresden's sporting director Matthias Roos.
