Handball Bundesliga club SC DHfK Leipzig has terminated the current contract with its former coach Runar Sigtryggsson. The 53-year-old Icelander, who was released by the club in May 2025, has found a new employer in HSG Wetzlar, as both clubs announced. Wetzlar and Leipzig are in the bottom two places in the Bundesliga with five points each. The Hessians will host the Saxons on February 20 for the 22nd matchday.
Sigtryggsson was head coach from November 2022 until the spring. The Messestadt club then started the new season with Raul Alonso as coach. The Spaniard, who was unable to celebrate a single win with Leipzig, was let go on November 19. Frank Carstens then took over and was able to celebrate his first win last Wednesday against Hamburger SV.
