Cup defending champion RB Leipzig will once again face VfL Wolfsburg in the second round of the DFB Cup. This was the result of the draw on Sunday evening in Dortmund. World champion Shkodran Mustafi drew the lot for Leipzig. On October 31 or November 1, the Saxons will have to face the VfL. It is already the sixth meeting of the two clubs in this competition. Four times RB had the better end for itself, once the VfL won. That was on March 4, 2015, when it was still against the underclass Leipzig side. In the only cup match in Wolfsburg so far, RB had won 6:1 in October 2019.
"VfL has started well in the Bundesliga and is in the top group. Niko has set his team well, we expect in the 2nd round away a tough nut. At the same time, we want to spend the winter in three competitions and therefore move into the round of 16 of the DFB Cup," RB coach Marco Rose said after the draw.
