The hosts were without veteran Marvin Stefaniak, who was unable to play due to an ankle injury. That was not noticeable in the first 20 minutes, as the home side fired off a firework display from all parts of the team, which Cologne were unable to counter despite the first chance of the game (4th minute). The lead, which Barylla marked with a fine 18-meter shot into the far corner, was logical and fully deserved.

With the clearest chance for his team, Robin Velasko (20th) initiated a turnaround in the game to a somewhat lengthy affair. Aue goalkeeper Martin Männel saved in the style of an ice hockey goalie. The hosts then left the game to Viktoria and only sporadically tried to generate pressure again.
