RB Leipzig have another diamond in the rough. Pacey dribbler Yan Diomande scored a treble in the 6-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, making him the second-youngest player in Bundesliga history to achieve this feat at the age of 19. Only Frankfurt's Walter Bechtold was even younger in 1965 at 18 years and 118 days.
The Ivorian, who is currently causing a sensation as a mask man after breaking his nose, remains down-to-earth. "Scoring three goals is a special moment for me as a professional. My three goals are team goals. I'm still very young, I have a lot to learn, everyone is helping me," said the €20 million new signing from CD Leganés, wrapped up in a winter jacket as he went from interview to interview.
Clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC have long had the youngster under observation. FC Barcelona are also said to be interested in the Ivorian, who has a contract in Leipzig until the summer of 2030. In any case, nothing less than a transfer fee of around 100 million euros will do. According to "Sport Bild", Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested.
Problem for Nagelsmann?
Diomande can single-handedly decide games with his dynamism. He could therefore also become a problem for Julian Nagelsmann and the German national team. Côte d'Ivoire are the DFB team's group opponents at the World Cup. "Yesterday I wrote in our team group that I'm looking forward to playing against him. Today in training we greeted each other and laughed because he also said he was looking forward to it. You never know exactly how Yan will play, but I love being in the same team with him," said German international and RB captain David Raum.
