Men from Saxony receive less pension than the national average. This is according to this year's pension atlas published by Deutsche Rentenversicherung. According to the study, the average old-age pension for men with at least 35 years of insurance in Saxony in 2023 was 1663 euros, while the national average was 1809 euros. Saxon women, on the other hand, were slightly above the average (€1,394) at €1,415.
Highest pensions in NRW and Saarland
In a nationwide comparison, men from North Rhine-Westphalia (€1,923) and Saarland (€1,920) received the highest pensions. In both federal states, many men used to work in well-paid jobs in the mining industry. The good wages from back then are now reflected in their pensions. This is because pension payments are based on the amount of individual earnings from all years in which contributions were paid. The higher the earnings subject to contributions, the higher the pension entitlements.
