The Federal Employment Agency in Saxony wants to continue to provide targeted support for the long-term unemployed. "Success on the labor market depends largely on the quality of education and qualifications: The lower the qualification, the worse people's chances on the labor market and the higher their unemployment rate," the agency clarified. Skilled workers with a vocational qualification and academics are significantly less likely to be affected by unemployment and therefore long-term unemployment than people without a vocational qualification.
Various support for those affected
People are classified as long-term unemployed if they have been registered as unemployed for a year or longer. Those affected receive intensive advice from the job centers and support with placement. According to the employment agency, they can acquire qualifications through further training and retraining. The costs of job interviews and application folders are covered. Trial work and coaching for integration into the company are also organized.
Companies receive subsidies when hiring those affected
Companies that hire the long-term unemployed can receive wage subsidies of 75 percent or 50 percent of wages for a period of two years. Subsidies for further training costs for qualification during employment are also possible. The prerequisite is that people who have been unemployed for at least two years are taken on in employment subject to social security contributions. Last year, 50,455 people in Saxony were registered as long-term unemployed. A recent study by Diakonie sheds light on the difficult situation of those affected.
