Nurses in Saxony are now paid better. However, their pay is below the national average. Compared to the previous year, average hourly wages rose from 21.55 euros to 23.32 euros, an increase of 8.2 percent. This is according to data from the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV).
Care workers in Hamburg (24.55 euros) and North Rhine-Westphalia (24.21 euros) are the best paid in Germany. The national average is 23.70 euros (up 4.9 percent). Nurses in Brandenburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Thuringia receive less money than their colleagues in Saxony.
Own shares are likely to rise
The head of the association, Oliver Blatt, told the German Press Agency: "Overall, nursing staff can rely on being paid fairly." What is good for them, however, also has a downside. "As a result of the wage adjustments, nursing home residents' co-payments will once again rise significantly." Politicians must finally show ways to limit higher costs. The GKV also represents the care insurance funds and presents an annual calculation of wages.
According to the association's estimates, the nationwide wage increases are now likely to lead to an average increase of 100 euros per month in the personal contributions - of which an average of 30 euros will be offset by relief supplements granted by the care insurance funds depending on the length of stay in the home. This is likely to lead to additional expenditure of around 260 million euros per year for long-term care insurance.
