An appointment at the dentist is not necessarily one of the best things in life. Nevertheless, every Saxon had an average of 1.7 appointments with a dentist in 2023.

The number of dentists in Saxony fell slightly last year. According to the State Statistical Office, a total of 3,717 men and women were working in this profession at the end of the year, 43 fewer than in the previous year. 95 percent of them worked as owners (2,373) or assistants (1,144) in a practice. There were 86 dentists per 100,000 inhabitants, the fewest in the district of Central Saxony (71.6) and the most in Dresden (103.0). 160 of the dentists in private practice worked as orthodontists.

According to expert recommendations, everyone should have their teeth checked by a dentist twice a year. "In 2023, however, the average person in Saxony only had their teeth checked 1.7 times a year," according to the State Statistical Office. The Kassenzahnärztliche Vereinigung Sachsen billed a good 6.9 million dental treatment cases, 3.4 percent more than in the previous year. September 25 is celebrated every year as Dental Health Day.
