Respiratory infections in Saxony are on the decline. As the State Investigation Institute (LUA) states in its latest report published on the Ministry of Health's website, the end of the flu epidemic is in sight. The number of reported cases of influenza, coronavirus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) also fell in the third week of March. Compared to the previous week, influenza cases fell by just under 15 percent, coronavirus cases by just over a fifth and RSV cases by almost a third.

According to the LUA, influenza cases continue to occur in all age groups, with only fewer cases being recorded among under-one-year-olds, adolescents and young adults. RSV infections, on the other hand, mainly affect infants and young children, while coronavirus infections particularly affect older people.

Since the start of the current season in October 2023, 368 deaths have been recorded in connection with a Sars-CoV-2 infection. These were people between the ages of 39 and 99. The overall statistics also show 109 influenza deaths between the ages of 11 and 96 as well as ten women and six men between the ages of 71 and 99 who died from an RSV infection. So far, a total of almost 25,700 coronavirus cases have been reported and influenza has been confirmed in a good 20,700 cases and around 6790 cases of RSV.
