In Saxony, around 400 people are waiting for an organ donation. On August 31, there were exactly 383 patients on the waiting list for an organ, according to statistics from Eurotransplant. According to the statistics, 269 people were waiting for a kidney, 60 for a liver, 36 for a heart, 18 for a pancreas and 13 for a lung. According to the statistics, 8,100 people were waiting for an organ nationwide.
Slightly more organs transplanted
The number of transplants performed from January to August 2025 was many times lower. Across Germany, 2,188 organs were transplanted - 150 more than in the same period in 2024, according to figures from the German Organ Transplant Foundation. In Saxony, the figure was 113 (2024: 106). Living donations are not included.
The number of organ donors in Saxony remained constant: according to the foundation, the number of 49 at the end of August was at the same level as the previous year. Accordingly, 141 organs were removed from them and later transplanted nationwide and abroad. That was just under 20 more than in the same period in 2024 (122).
