The CDU and CSU parliamentary group leaders from Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia are forging closer ties. There are enough cross-state challenges.

The CDU/CSU state parliamentary groups from Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia want to work much more closely together in future and, for example, jointly promote cross-border transport projects and better cross-border healthcare. This was agreed by the parliamentary group leaders at a meeting in Mödlareuth on the former German-German border. A joint declaration adopted there states: "In the spirit of an "Alliance of the Free States", we will articulate our common interests to the other states and the federal government in a united and emphatic manner."

"Medical care and nursing in particular are social issues of our time. When clinics close in rural areas and there is a shortage of rural doctors, the future of entire regions is at stake," said Klaus Holetschek, head of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament. "That is why we want to jointly organize healthcare across our state borders - from rescue routes and hospital planning to training in healthcare professions." In particular, the federal government must make cross-sector and digital model projects possible. "Illness knows no borders, which is why they must not play a role in the planning processes," said Holetschek.

Cross-border transport and healthcare planning

The Thuringian CDU parliamentary group leader Andreas Bühl also announced: "We want to jointly create transport planning across state borders. In this way, we can ensure economic strength, regional development and equal living conditions." A paper jointly adopted by the three parliamentary group leaders states, among other things: "Specifically, we are striving for the continuous expansion and complete electrification of the cross-border railroad lines between Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia as well as to Poland and the Czech Republic."

The three CDU/CSU parliamentary groups also want to work more closely together in the fight against extremism and racism. "Hate and incitement to hatred are detrimental to our Free State. That is why we are clearly opposed to extremism of any kind, especially anti-Semitism," emphasized Christian Hartmann, head of the CDU parliamentary group in Saxony. The police and judiciary should also work more closely together, share experiences and learn from each other. Extremism would not be tolerated, but rather confronted together.
