Landtag President Alexander Dierks has drawn a positive conclusion one year after the constitution of the Saxon parliament following the 2024 state elections. The state parliament had made the necessary decisions, the CDU politician told the "Freie Presse" newspaper. Dierks pointed out that the rules of procedure had been adopted, the Presidium and the Prime Minister elected and the double budget passed.
"As a learning system, parliament is able to deal with the situation of a minority government, which we were all previously unaware of and which is difficult to imagine in a vacuum," said Dierks.
A minority coalition of CDU and SPD is currently in power in Saxony. The two partners had agreed the 2025/2026 double budget with the opposition Green and Left parties. The processes required to reach decisions have become much more protracted, said the president of the state parliament.
