The famous painting by Bellotto is recreated on Pirna's market square. Amateurs in historical costumes with dogs and horses await the visitors.

This Friday, the famous painting by Bernardo Bellotto, known as Canaletto, will once again be recreated in the "Pirna Marketplace". In the afternoon, amateurs in historical costumes with dogs, horses and many original details will gather again, as the municipal culture and tourism company announced on Monday. The "illustrious" community will then linger for a few minutes in the places where the painter immortalized them in 1753. The public will also be able to stroll around the square and pose, take pictures or videos and share them via app.

Bellotto (1722-1780), who called himself Canaletto after his famous uncle Giovanni Antonio Canal, visited Pirna several times between 1753 and 1756. He created a total of eleven views of the town - so-called vedute - for Saxony's elector as well as engravings and copies for his minister Count Brühl. Like the famous Dresden city views, Bellotto's Pirna vedute became part of the princely collection.
