In Bautzen, Left Party campaign workers have once again been attacked. Late on Tuesday afternoon, a youth hit a party member who was looking after an information stand in the face with his fist, the party announced. There are currently no known health consequences. The police have received a report of bodily harm, as confirmed by a spokesperson.
According to the party, a group of young people and a man had previously mobbed the five-member team running the stand and thrown firecrackers at them, one of which exploded. According to the party, the attackers were clearly from the far-right scene. The police who were called initially defused the situation by sending them off.
The police announced that state security had begun an investigation into the incident. It involved a group of six people, including a 19-year-old who was identified as the alleged suspect. Investigations are underway into attempted bodily harm and threats, among other things.
