The start of border controls on the Polish side has not caused any traffic problems in Saxony, according to the Federal Police. "We have not seen any backlogs into Germany," said a spokesperson in Görlitz. As far as can be seen from Germany, traffic is also clear in Poland. Poland has also not turned back any people at the border so far.
Since midnight, random checks have been carried out on travelers at the 52 crossings along the German-Polish border. The checks will initially continue until August 5. The center-left government in Warsaw ordered the checks in response to German border controls. Germany has been carrying out random checks at the border with Poland since October 2023 to stop irregular migration.
