From new vocational training centers to support for start-ups and research collaborations: Thousands of projects are being supported in Saxony with funding from EU structural funds. A total of around 3.2 billion euros is available for projects in Saxony in the current 2021-2027 funding period, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
This includes support for employment, qualification and social innovation through the European Social Fund. 350 million euros have already been approved for this alone until the end of 2025, it said. For example, new training networks in mechanical engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology are being supported in order to keep young talent in the region. In the "Job Coaching for Immigrants" project in Dresden, people with a migration background received help entering the job market.
Projects on education, climate protection, urban development & Co
Around 6,000 projects with a volume of more than one billion euros had been implemented or completed via the European Regional Development Fund by the end of 2025, according to the ministry. One example is the construction of the new vocational school center for electrical engineering in Dresden to strengthen the semiconductor location. Financial support also flows into climate and flood protection measures as well as urban development - for example in favor of disadvantaged districts and the reactivation of brownfield sites.
"EU funding is indispensable for Saxony's development," emphasized Economics and Labour Minister Dirk Panter (SPD). "With the help of EU programs, we are providing important impetus for innovation, skilled workers and climate protection." This would secure jobs and support the development of new technologies.
Higher funding quotas for the circular economy
This year, additional priorities are to be set in the areas of the circular economy, the promotion of large companies and climate and energy. According to the ministry, funding rates of up to 90 percent are then possible in the circular economy.
