End of the line at customs: Because the electrical appliances in a shipment from Turkey do not comply with EU safety regulations, they are not allowed to be traded in this country.

Customs in Dresden have stopped the import of electrical appliances that were being transported by truck from Turkey to Germany. The appliances - including refrigerators and freezers and machines for processing dough and meat - were destined for a company in Hesse, but had violated the provisions of the Product Safety Act, according to the main customs office in Dresden.

Appliances must be re-exported or destroyed

"In some cases, the necessary documentation was missing or the product labels did not meet the legal requirements," it said. The State Directorate of Saxony had checked this as the responsible inspection authority. As a result, the machines were not allowed to enter the European market. They would have to be re-exported or destroyed.

Products intended for trade must meet EU standards

All products placed on the market in the European Union must comply with the product safety and conformity regulations applicable in the EU, regardless of their country of origin, according to the customs authorities. This is the only way to ensure a uniformly high level of protection for consumers and companies.
