After an arson attack on an apartment building in Leipzig's Connewitz district, police extremism specialists have taken over the investigation. The newly renovated house had already been damaged several times in the past, according to the State Office of Criminal Investigation. A letter of confession on the internet indicates a political motivation.
Unknown perpetrators had set fire to bulky waste in front of the corner entrance of an empty store in the building on Tuesday night, according to the statement. The police and fire department extinguished the flames. No one was reportedly injured. The damage could not yet be quantified. The police are looking for witnesses who made observations at the house.
