Whether in the Thuringian Forest, the Harz Mountains or the Ore Mountains, the ski resorts offer a wide range of winter sports. However, visitors must be prepared for regional differences.
Oberhof reports eight open cross-country ski trails
The ski area in and around Oberhof has been given the green light all round, explained a spokeswoman for the Thuringian Forest Regional Association. Cross-country skiers can choose between eight trails here. From the "Alte Rollerbahn I and II" to the 49-kilometre "Große Runde R", all trails are freshly groomed. The lifts are open for alpine skiers, the spokesperson explained.
Schierke attracts visitors with toboggan runs
Winter sports are also possible in Saxony-Anhalt thanks to the current frosty conditions. According to the Harz Tourism Association, all three toboggan runs in Schierke are open. The runs in and around the village are between 100 and 200 meters long. The trails in the Harz National Park are also currently being groomed. From tomorrow, several cross-country ski trails will be available around Schierke.
Trails in the Ore Mountains in preparation
"With the new snowfall, the Ore Mountains are once again looking beautiful in winter," explained a spokeswoman for the Ore Mountains Tourism Association. The large ski resorts such as Eibenstock, Oberwiesenthal and Altenberg are open and offer good slope conditions for snowboarders and alpine skiers. Cross-country skiers, however, still have to be patient: The trails have not yet been groomed across the board. There is still a lack of snow for a consistently well-groomed trail.
