Piste clear: skiers have been able to indulge in their hobby on the Fichtelberg again since Friday. However, there is still not enough snow for all the runs.

Skiers are now getting their money's worth again on the Fichtelberg. The first slopes were opened on Friday, which some winter sports enthusiasts did not want to miss despite the gloomy weather. This clears the way for skiing over the Christmas period, said René Lötzsch, head of the Fichtelberg suspension railroad. The extent to which other slopes can be opened and lifts put into operation by then depends on the weather. After all, snowfall is expected at the weekend.

The area on the Fichtelberg is Saxony's largest alpine ski resort. Elsewhere, the lifts had already been turned on earlier and the new season had begun. For example in Eibenstock and Altenberg in the Osterzgebirge. Skiing is also already underway on Keilberg, the highest peak in the Ore Mountains, on the Czech side. But not all the slopes are open there either. On Friday, 6 out of 32 were open.
