A young man in Leipzig was blinded in one eye after an attack with pyrotechnics on New Year's Eve. According to the police, an unknown perpetrator threw a firecracker into a large group of people at Connewitzer Kreuz at around midnight.
The explosive device detonated in the immediate vicinity of a 20-year-old man and injured his eye so severely that he had to undergo emergency surgery in a specialist hospital that same night. Despite the operation, the sight in one eye could not be saved. The criminal investigation department has launched an investigation into grievous bodily harm and is looking for witnesses.
