A young man in Leipzig was blinded in one eye after an attack with pyrotechnics on New Year's Eve. According to the police, an unknown perpetrator threw a firecracker into a large group of people at Connewitzer Kreuz at around midnight.

The explosive device detonated in the immediate vicinity of a 20-year-old man and injured his eye so severely that he had to undergo emergency surgery in a specialist hospital that same night.
