The skis are stowed away in the cellar or garage, now it's time to get on your bike in the Ore Mountains. The new bike season opens on Saturday. Here's what's on offer for athletes and families.

Whether by mountain bike or road bike: in the coming weeks and months, the Ore Mountains will once again be a destination for many cyclists. The official start of the new bike season is this Saturday (April 25).

At the Blockline, the kick-off will be celebrated with the bridge festival in Dorfchemnitz, according to the Erzgebirge Tourism Association. There will also be a guided bike tour starting in Frauenstein. The Stoneman Miriquidi also invites you to conquer the nine highest peaks in the Ore Mountains in Saxony and the Czech Republic by bike - over one, two or three days, depending on your fitness level.

According to the tourism association, both offers have established themselves as central components of active tourism in the region and appeal to beginners and families as well as ambitious cyclists. The demand for these offers is increasing and they are creating more added value in the tourism industry, they say.

Guided tours for children on the Blockline

The Blockline in the Osterzgebirge has a length of 140 kilometers at an altitude of 2,750 meters. It can be ridden in 15 stages, three loops or in one piece. There are also a number of leisure activities along the route: Summer toboggan runs, playgrounds, museums and castles. Guided tours are also offered along the route, especially for children or for the popular ZDF Erzgebirge thriller. A Gravel Camp is planned for the end of August at the Galgenteich in Altenberg.

There are also special routes for mountain bikers in Breitenbrunn and Schöneck in Vogtland. The Trailcenter Rabenberg combines five signposted trails with a length of 50 kilometers: from the beginner's loop to the difficult tour. The Bikewelt in Schöneck is also already open with five trails of different difficulty levels and a practice course.
