In steep terrain, a young mother (23) from the district of Leipzig in Austria lost her baby carriage. It fell about 50 meters downhill and overturned several times, her ten-week-old baby was thrown out and remained lying in a meadow, according to the police in Tyrol.
Mountain rescuers who happened to be passing by treated the baby and brought mother and child down to the valley. The infant was then taken by emergency helicopter from the Zams district hospital to Innsbruck University Hospital. The police were unable to say how serious the injuries were.
The accident occurred on Monday afternoon on the way to Frommes Alpe in the municipality of Fiss around 100 kilometers east of Innsbruck. According to the police, the child's father was also on the trip.
