The wolf hotline in Saxony will only be available to a limited extent at night in future. However, direct contact will still be possible in urgent cases.

In future, the wolf hotline in Saxony will only be available to a limited extent during off-peak hours. From November 10, an answering machine will be set up in the evening and at night, according to the State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG). In emergencies, however, direct contact with a contact person is still possible.

If citizens report a wolf that has been found dead or injured or a situation with a wolf that is perceived as dangerous, the callers will be forwarded directly to contact persons who will immediately take further steps. If livestock owners report a possible wolf attack on livestock, an appointment for a risk assessment should be arranged the following day via the Wolf Unit.

Since 2019, Saxony's wolf management has been coordinated and implemented by the Wolf Unit of the LfULG. Since then, the hotline has also been set up.

According to the federal documentation and advice center on wolves, five of the ten most recently reported cases in Germany were in Saxony. According to the report, an old wolf died after a traffic accident in the district of North Saxony. Four animals in the district of Bautzen died of natural causes at the end of September and in October.
