A 30-year-old man is said to have deliberately knocked over a woman in his car in the district of Leipzig - she was seriously injured. "Based on the information available so far, the investigating authorities assume that the accused deliberately used the car he was driving improperly in order to cause an accident and cause serious damage to the health of another person," explained senior public prosecutor Ricardo Schulz from the Leipzig public prosecutor's office on request. The man is now in custody. The portal "Tag24" had previously reported.
The man's car hit the woman on a country road at the weekend. According to the public prosecutor's office, the 32-year-old has since been in hospital with serious injuries. The accused was drunk behind the wheel of his car, as a breath alcohol test revealed. A blood test was also carried out for possible criminal proceedings. According to the senior public prosecutor, the results are not yet available.
Man must expect proceedings
The public prosecutor's office had applied for an arrest warrant, which was issued by an investigating judge. According to Schulz, there is an urgent suspicion of dangerous bodily harm and serious intentional interference with road traffic. The man's driving license had been seized "as there are urgent reasons to believe that the accused's driving license will be revoked in the criminal proceedings", it said.
The investigation is currently underway - including into the possible background and the alleged course of events on the country road last Saturday night. The incident took place on the connecting road between Großbardau and Bernbruch. The senior public prosecutor did not provide any further information on the findings of the investigation to date.
