A good 300 solid cubic meters of Brandenburg's finest tree trunks have been auctioned off at this year's state hardwood auction. Around 310,000 euros were realized at the auction in Groß Schönebeck, the Ministry of the Environment announced on Thursday. One bidder paid almost 2900 euros per cubic meter for an oak trunk from the Steinförde forestry operation in the district of Oberhavel - a record at the auction.

A total of 166 trunks of four hardwood species were sold. Oak wood came under the hammer most frequently, followed by copper beech, sycamore maple and cherry. According to the figures, the average price was 1004 euros per cubic meter, slightly higher than in the previous year. Customers of the state's timber auction include the entire spectrum of wood processing - from carpentry businesses to sawmills and veneer manufacturers. The high-quality timber found buyers from Denmark, Austria, Brandenburg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony.

The best value and sawn timber from the Brandenburg state forest was offered in the campaign and sold according to written bids. The special wood is used exclusively for the manufacture of high-quality products such as veneers, furniture, windows and doors.
