Train services between Leipzig and Chemnitz have been disrupted following vandalism on a railroad line. "Unknown persons damaged the cable duct at the weekend and repair work is underway," Deutsche Bahn said in response to a dpa query. "Unfortunately, we are currently unable to predict when the line will be fully operational again."
The RE6 is operated by Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn. According to the company, several trains between Leipzig-Hauptbahnhof and Leipzig-Liebertwolkwitz will be canceled and replaced by buses. "All other trains will be rerouted on the Geithain-Leipzig Hbf section without intermediate stops." There is therefore no danger that the new battery-powered trains used on this section will break down en route, the company was told on request. As the route is not electrified, these trains are charged at the final stops in Leipzig and Chemnitz. They have been in use since the beginning of the month.
