The rail timetable change brings a number of changes for users of Abellio trains. Some of these changes will result in new transfers, while others will shorten journey times, the company announced. Abellio operates the so-called Saale-Thüringen-Südharz network in local transportation. The timetable change is planned for December 14.
In future, Regionalbahn 20 will only run between Eisenach and Naumburg, as the part of the route that previously ran to Leipzig will be integrated into the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland network. Passengers traveling to Leipzig will therefore have to change trains in Naumburg in future.
New transfer options due to different journey times
The departure times on Regional Express line 15 Leipzig-Naumburg-Jena-Saalfeld will be shifted by around ten minutes. This will result in new connections at various stations. Trains between Jena and Saalfeld will run every hour in the afternoon in future.
Regional express 16 between Halle and Erfurt will stop in Bad Sulza once an hour from mid-December. Several trains a day will also run beyond Erfurt to Eisenach.
Regional train 25 between Halle and Saalfeld will no longer stop in Naumburg for as long as before. This will shorten the journey time by around ten minutes.
Construction work between Halle and Kassel from 2026
Trains will run every hour on the high-demand route between Halle and Kassel in future. However, this route will be completely renovated in 2026, Abellio announced. Passengers will face long closures of individual sections.
