Hoyerswerda station is being modernized and converted to make it barrier-free at a cost of 21 million euros. However, it will be some time before trains can run on all tracks again.

The completion of the renovation work at the train station in Hoyerswerda has been delayed by a year. Deutsche Bahn has announced that the renovation is proving more difficult than expected.

The city of Hoyerswerda announced last year that the work would take until summer 2026. Passengers will now have to be patient for another year. All platforms can be used again from summer 2027, as announced by Deutsche Bahn. Residual and clean-up work will then be carried out around the construction site.

Difficult construction conditions

The reason for the delays is that the modernization of the platform is proving to be more difficult and complex than expected. For example, the entire platform foundations are in need of renovation. Originally, only the platform edges were to be renewed. The work on the new underpass has been delayed due to difficult ground conditions.

A new pedestrian underpass, three elevators and a new guidance system for the blind are also planned. 21 million euros will be invested in the conversion of the station. The measures are being financed by Deutsche Bahn, the Free State of Saxony and the Upper Elbe Transport Association (VVO)
