A solar system is to be installed on the roof of Dresden's town hall. The state capital wants to set a good example in the energy transition, the city administration announced in Dresden on Wednesday. The building, which is more than 100 years old, is a listed building. A draft that has been coordinated with the conservation authorities and is ready for approval is now to be submitted to the municipal committees.
"As the state capital, it is particularly important to us to set a visible example for climate protection and a secure energy supply with the construction of a large-scale photovoltaic system on the historic New Dresden Town Hall," said Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert (FDP). Especially as the system could cover a considerable proportion of the electricity consumption in the building itself. The project is to be covered by the special "Secure Energy Supply" program.
The city discussed various options together with the city and state monument protection authorities. The aim was to combine the technical and visually effective features of a photovoltaic system with the requirements and objectives of monument protection to the greatest possible common denominator.
