Public transport in Leipzig and Dresden prepared for winter storm

The transport companies in Leipzig and Dresden believe they are prepared for the predicted winter storm. The two transport companies announced on request that every effort is being made to keep to the planned schedule. They have sufficient road salt, employees and snow clearing vehicles in use.

Under certain conditions, colleagues are also out and about at night to keep overhead lines and routes clear, said a spokeswoman for Leipziger Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH. Passengers are advised to keep an eye on the known communication channels and, if necessary, allow a little more time and generally be careful when traveling outside their own four walls.

Special procedure in Dresden to protect the overhead lines

In Dresden, the roads are reportedly being cleared in good time for the buses. "The weather experts are expecting ten centimetres of fresh snow. That is a normal winter and should be manageable," emphasized DVB spokesman Falk Lösch. This amount of snow is not a problem for the streetcars either.

In the state capital, there is also an older streetcar that lubricates the overhead lines with a special antifreeze. During daily operation, no frost forms on the lines anyway, Lösch emphasized. "And at night, two trains run along the lines without passengers to remove the ice coating."
