The international airport in Prague handled more than 13.8 million passengers last year. This corresponds to an increase of 29 percent compared to 2022, according to a spokeswoman on Thursday. However, the good figures before the coronavirus pandemic have not yet been fully achieved. "In the record year 2019, it was possible to fly from Prague to 190 destinations, in 2023 it was 167," said Airport Director Jiri Pos. By comparison, around 59.4 million passengers were counted at Germany's largest aviation hub Frankfurt in 2023.
The most popular destinations from Prague included Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Turkey and France. For this year, the management expects a further increase in passenger numbers to around 15.5 million. Between March and June, flights to Florence, Verona, Tallinn, Ponta Delgada, Brindisi and Izmir are to be added as new services.
Occasionally, travelers from Germany also use the airport in the Czech capital as a starting point for their trips. However, there are no concrete figures on this. The airport is officially named after the former Czechoslovak and Czech president Vaclav Havel (1936-2011).
