There are more and more cannabis clubs in Saxony. The State Directorate granted permits to five cultivation associations in the first half of 2026—two in Chemnitz, two in Leipzig, and one in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district—as the agency reported upon request. This brings the total number of clubs in Saxony to 29, 21 of which are already growing cannabis.
Leipzig Has the Most Clubs
Regionally, the clubs are concentrated primarily in the independent cities (18), particularly in Leipzig (8). Among the districts, Görlitz leads with four cultivation associations. No permits have been issued yet in four out of ten districts: Bautzen, Leipzig, Central Saxony, and Northern Saxony.
The number of members in the associations varies between 27 and 480. According to legal requirements, the maximum is 500. According to the State Directorate, it is not yet possible to predict how large this year’s harvest will be. In 2025, the total amount cultivated was 340 kilograms. A year earlier, it had been only 680 grams; at that time, only one association had begun cultivation.
