The mobile phone connection is sometimes unstable, especially in remote areas. Without a network, you cannot be reached and cannot make calls or receive text messages yourself. Then it gets even lonelier.

The people of Saxony can help to detect dead spots in the mobile network next week. Economics Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) called on citizens to take part in the nationwide mobile network measurement week. The campaign runs from Monday to Sunday. The more people take part, the more precise the picture of the actual mobile phone coverage in Saxony and the whole of Germany will be, he said. This applies in particular to rural regions and areas with difficult topography.

Minister of Economic Affairs points to high level of coverage in Saxony

"We have already achieved a high level of mobile coverage in Saxony. The proportion of the area covered by fourth-generation mobile communications (4G/LTE) in this country is 98.80 percent, and 96.06 percent for the fifth generation (5G)," explained Panter. The aim of the Mobile Communications Measurement Week is to focus more on the experiences that people have in their everyday lives. "Get involved! Use the public holiday, the weekend, the way to work or to go shopping and check your mobile network."

During the measurement week, users can use their smartphone and an app from the Federal Network Agency to measure broadband coverage in their area. The data collected in this way is intended to provide insights that contribute to improving the quality of mobile network coverage. The data will be anonymized and incorporated into the wireless coverage map of the federal government's "Gigabit Basic Book" and show where there is a need for further improvement for the federal government and mobile communications companies.
