The Left Party is calling for more money for social housing in the 2025/26 double budget. "Saxony is a state of tenants: Two thirds of the population live in rented accommodation," explained Juliane Nagel, housing policy spokesperson for the state parliamentary group. Rents are constantly rising, especially in conurbations and surrounding districts, and more so than incomes. This is why funding programs for social and barrier-free housing construction need to be increased.
Since 2017, a good 2,000 new social housing units have been built in Saxony. At least 11,095 more are needed. The Left Party is therefore calling for funding for social housing to be increased by 25 million euros per year - to just under 130 million euros this year and a good 180 million euros next year.
