The transnational chemistry research center CTC continues to grow. The first research projects were launched this year, said a spokesperson for the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry. The CTC is being funded by the federal government with up to 1.1 billion euros as part of the coal phase-out. Up to 1,000 researchers are expected to work there by 2038.
There are currently 61 employees from twelve different countries working at the two sites in Merseburg (Saxony-Anhalt) and Delitzsch (Saxony). The research projects to date have been in the field of recycling or data-driven chemistry. The center is intended to accelerate the transformation of the chemical industry towards a circular economy and create high-quality jobs in the process. Saxony-Anhalt Science Minister Armin Willingmann (SPC) describes the CTC as a "beacon for cutting-edge research and technology transfer in Central Germany".
